Code Enforcement

The mission of the City of Atlanta, Office of Code Compliance is to ensure safe and sanitary conditions in housing and commercial properties through effective code enforcement efforts.

Types of code violations include:

  • Open & Vacant Structure
  • Overgrowth (grass, kudzu)
  • Junk/Inoperative Vehicle
  • Junk, Debris, Trash
  • Vacant Lot
  • Broken Window Glass
  • Rodent Infestation or Unsanitary Conditions
  • Decayed/Damaged Leaking Roofs
  • No Water Supply(hot/cold)
  • No Heat
  • Other Deficiencies which render properties substandard, or unsafe to its occupants or the general public

When reporting a code violation, it  helps if you can provide additional information such as property owner information/records/documentation especially on vacant or abandoned properties.  If you want to find out information about the ownership history of property in the neighborhood for reporting purposes, you can type the address into the Fulton County Tax Assessor’s Property Database

When you report a code violation, always request case number and the name of the assigned officer, so that you can follow up on your complaint in 30 days.
