• New Splash Pad opened on May 19th, 2012

Neighbors happily welcomed a new splash pad as a welcome addition to Perkerson Park on Saturday, May 19th which was followed up by jazz in the Park sponsored by City Councilmember, Joyce Sheperd. Residents from surrounding the surrounding neighborhoods of Capitol View, Capitol View Manor, Sylvan Hills, Adair Park, Pittsburgh, and West End came out in force to enjoy this new amenity.President Penelope McPhee from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation who sponsored the construction, spoke at the opening ceremony.

“The splash pad features the artwork of Maria Artemis in a series of granite boulders that form a fountain and double as seating. In-ground spray elements are designed for three age groups: young children, four to seven years old, and eight years and up. Construction on the splash pad began in March 2012. Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. managed the design and construction of the new splash pad on behalf of the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs.

The splash pad is the first of many elements to be completed under the new master plan for Perkerson Park, a 50-acre greenspace nestled in the residential neighborhood of Capitol View. The master plan was developed with the community through a series of meetings, including three meetings specifically regarding the splash pad design. The park currently includes a recreation center, tennis courts, basketballs courts, a playground, ball fields, a pavilion, and a temporary disc golf course. Additional amenities include walking paths, open fields, a stream, and a tract of woods. Funding for the splash pad came from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation through the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs.” (quoted directly from the Beltline website article)
