Capitol View Neighborhood Association Meeting
MEETING MINUTES – September 18, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by President Michael Brooks. We had to move the meeting down to the Pavilion because no one showed up to unlock the Recreation Center.
Meet and Greet – We had approximately 30 people in attendance.
The August 21st, 2008, general meeting minutes were accepted and adopted.
President’s Report: none
Vice President’s Report: none
Secretary’s Report: none
Treasurer’s Report: Natasha reported bank balance- Suntrust. $1,225.50 and PayPal $290.67. ($1000 of the balance is our grant money for the CV newsletter). She also reported on Upcoming Events. We have officially been moved from Zone 4 to Zone 3 as of September 18, 2008. Major Finley is the Commander. His office number is

Committee Reports:
(1) Code Enforcement: Peter Kaplan
capviewdeputy@hotmail.com 404-752-7660. He emphasized the importance to attend the Community Walk-Through on Saturday. The upcoming NPU-X Public Safety Meeting be on Monday, September 22, 6:30 pm, and will be held at the Metro Fitness Complex located at 1959 Metropolitan Parkway, 30315. The meeting room is located around the right side of the bowling alley.
(2) Public Safety: Tony Thaxton Jr reported about the August 25th NPU-X Public Safety meeting. He also informed us that the replacement cost for a Herbie Curbie will be approximately $53. (even if it gets stolen).
Charles Pippin, announced that the next Capitol View Security Alliance meeting will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Stewart-Lakewood Library, located at 2893 Lakewood Avenue (404-762-4054). Charles also announced that the Fall 2008 Capitol View Security Alliance Newsletter is available.

New Business/Other: The Capitol View Community Walk Through will be held on Saturday, September 20th, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will meet at the Emmanuel Baptist Tabernacle Baptist Church located at 823 Dill Avenue. Joyce Sheperd, District 12 Councilmember, Major Finley (Zone 3) Atlanta Police Department and Debra Conner, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Code Compliance will all be in attendance. This “walk-through” is being held to identify community issues regarding Public Safety, Code Compliance, and to create a database.
Neighborhood Announcements:
Natasha announced that there will be a meeting to be held on Wednesday, September 24th at 6:30 p.m. at the Perkerson Park Recreation Center regarding the Perkerson Park “Camp-Out” and a walk- through for the planned Disc Golf Course and Trails.
She also discussed the importance of voting for the November 4, 2008 General Election. She relayed information regarding early and advance voting locations and information and urged residents to register to vote if they had not done so yet. She provided handouts of information regarding registrations and elections.

*Major Finley of Zone 3 made an appearance and announced that it will be Oct 1st or 2nd before Capitol View will “actively” become part of Zone 3.He emphasized the importance of communication between us citizens and the police force.
*Excide Battery representatives did not show up for our meeting. Natasha briefly discussed the EPD Corrective Action Plan regarding the clean-up of that property and informed us about the 30-day public comment notice. She will stay informed of their progress.
*Johnny Watkins announced information regarding the “Safe House” program for upcoming Halloween and urged community residents to register and post the Safe House sign on their homes if they wish to give out candy to Trick or Treaters.
*Lisa Yeiser announced that The B Complex will be hosting a Halloween Party and any volunteers would be much appreciated.
*Joanne Glass announced that she and the Seniors will be taking a trip to Plains, Georgia, on November 8th. They will be traveling by motor coach and will be catching the train in Cordell, Georgia. The cost of the trip is $75 per person. They will be leaving at 5:30 am. For more information, you can contact Joanne at 404-755-8744.
*Vicky Jackson, Admn. Asst. for Councilmember Joyce Sheperd, was present to discuss the Neighborhood Deputies Program. She also had a Quick Reference Guide for reporting code violations for anyone interested.
*Laurel Rummel, from Capitol View Manor, announced that there will be a book sale at the Stewart-Lakewood Library on Saturday, September 20th, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Also, the Colgate Dental Van will be there cleaning kid’s teeth (under 17 years old) for FREE, if accompanied by a parent or guardian. She also urged everyone to vote YES on the Fulton County Library Bond Referendum in this Fall’s general elections. If the bond referendum passes, it means a new 25,000 square foot Library will be built for our neighborhood.
