Review of Local Education Issues for April 30th – May 4th

The Board of Education Special Legislative Meeting on April 30, 2012.  The two major resolutions of this meeting were that the children of Summerhill would attend Parkside and the approval of the authorization to Abolish Positions within the Curriculum and Instruction Division, Create Positions and Execute a Transition Plan.

Here are links to the local coverage on education issues this week.  There are a lot of things going on.  In addition to Stanton staying open and Summerhill being zoned to Parkside Elementary, the AJC wrote an article on the the $47 million budget gap that APS is struggling to fill, which is one of the reasons they are redistricting and reorganizing.  To cap things off Governor Deal signed into law legislation bill, HB 797 which provide additional educational opportunities through state charter schools.
