All families with rising Pre-Kers for the 2012-2013 School-Year should be keeping their eyes out for registration details soon. The state has to approve the locations of all Pre-K classes which has changed because of the final redistricting recommendations. The district will still have 41 classes and the tentative plan is that applications will be accepted in early June and the lottery will happen in mid-late June, if there is state approval.
Your children must be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2012 and you must be an Atlanta resident. The documents that will be required for registration include: BIRTH CERTIFICATE, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, and PROOF OF RESIDENCE(Deed, Lease or Rental Agreement, or Notarized Affidavit PLUS current Utility Bill. Three accused of cheating sue APS for $6 million – “Three, former APS top officials, APS Executive Directors Sharon Davis Williams, Michael Pitts and Tamara Cotman say the district violated state employment laws and breached job contracts after the July release of a 400-plus page state cheating investigation. Davis Williams is accused of instructing educators to cover up cheating and punishing a whistle-blower. Pitts allegedly knew about cheating at Parks Middle and discouraged teachers from making complaints against the principal. Mr. Duke Bradley was chosen as the new principal at Wesley International. Wesley International officially split from the Imagine charter school chain. Mr. Bradley is the first principal at Wesley that has been chosen by the school as a whole, including parents. Casey Foundation’s Atlanta Civic Site celebrated its two year anniversary of the Dunbar Learning Complex. The complex houses both Dunbar Elementary School and the Early Learning and Literacy Resource Center (ELLRC). Over the last two years the facility has witnessed improvements with the children it serves.
